Your work/request must be Kuroken centric.

Your work/request can be Christmas-related if you wish, but the Christmas part of the exchange is the gift period, not the content.

You can request secondary ships if you wish. If secondary ships are not included in the request, they should not be included in the work.

The event allows SFW, NSFW, and niche/taboo fanworks, as long as they are allowed to be posted on AO3. All published works must include appropriate archive warnings and tags. Works untagged and/or in violation of these requirements will not be retweeted by the exchange account, nor be accepted into the AO3 collection.

Please keep your giftee in mind as you create. Kindly read their likes/dislikes as well as side ship preferences clearly before working on your piece. If you have any doubts regarding the giftee’s requests, please ask the mods for further clarification. If you receive a gift that contains elements that you listed as DNW (do not wants), please reach out to the mods as soon as possible.

Please keep the creator in mind as you request. You may request anything that can be posted on AO3, as long as it’s focused on Kuroken. However, a gifter has to be willing to write or draw your gift for a matching to be possible in the exchange. It is recommended that you include a few options for the match to be possible and for your gifter to choose from.

Since this is a gift exchange you are expected to comment on your gift as an acknowledgement of receiving the same.

For fics: 1500 words is minimum, maximum word count is up to the writer.

For artworks: Minimum: illustration with flat colours no background, or illustration with shading and basic background, or comic with shading.

No plagiarism or AI-generated content is permitted.

The work that is posted must be completed by the exchange deadline. If it is a multi-chapter story, or a comic, it should still be posted in full by the exchange deadline.

The work must be in English.

If you are planning to drop out, kindly do so as soon as possible, so that mods can select a pinch hitter (see the schedule for last day to drop out).

Violations of the rules may result in being banned from the event.

The mods reserve the right to modify the rules as necessary to meet the needs of the Discord server and/or the event.

What is an exchange?

Do I have to write a Christmas fic / draw Christmas art?
No, the Christmas part is that the exchange gifts will be revealed during Christmas time. The fics can be any type of kuroken fic or art, as per your giftee’s wishes.

Do I need to use Discord?
Yes, the event communication will take place in the exchange Discord server.

Do I need to use AO3?
Yes. We will use AO3’s gift exchange function to administer the exchange. Both fics and art will be posted on AO3.

What if I don’t have an AO3 account and the waiting time is too long?
Contact the mods for assistance; we have extra invite codes.

What if there is content I am not willing to write/draw?
You will indicate what you are willing to create when you sign up, as well as what you are comfortable receiving.

What if there is someone participating that I can’t create for / receive works from?
Indicate this in the signup form.

I want to create for one person specifically. Can I request this?
The matching will be made using the signup information, i.e. you can’t request who to create for.

What if I have to drop out?
Notify mods as soon as possible so that we can contact a pinch hitter.

When would I be expected to pinch and do I still have to write the same word count within the same time?
We will contact pinch hitters as soon as an ordinary participant drops out. If the schedule is too tight the word count will be adjusted and there might be a slight extension on a case by case basis.

Can I write in any language?
All fics must be in English.

Can I request only fic or only art?
Your gift can be either fic or art depending on matching, so it’s not guaranteed.

I need a beta. Will I get one assigned?
Betas will not be provided, but there is a channel in the Discord server to ask for one among the cheerleader squad (non-participants). However, please note that all works should be kept secret until the reveal Dec 31st, so avoid discussing or displaying your work where participants can see until mods indicate it is ok to do so.

Can I share WIPs online, on my webpage etc?
Works will be revealed Dec 24th, but who each gifter is won’t be revealed until Dec 31st. Therefore, WIPs should not be shared. For the same reason, please don’t include A/Ns with information that can identify you as the creator. You can add these after the reveal.

Can I change my work after I have submitted it?
Yes you can still edit your work after submission.

What is expected of me when I receive my gift?
It is customary to make a comment on AO3 within a reasonable time. If you know there will be a few days before you are able to do so, it’s polite to make a short comment on the fic/art with this info.

Can I create more than one gift?
You need to create one gift for your giftee. Apart from that you are free to create as many “treats” as you wish for your giftee as well as any other participants in the exchange (as long as the gift matches their request info). There is no minimum requirement for treats.
